Jeff, aka Congo Kid, is a casual writer and podcaster. He enjoys studying and discussing sociology, culture, and human behavior. His formative years were spent in the Democratic Republic of Congo (aka Zaire), Africa, where he learned multiple languages (French and Lingala) and experienced different social constructs, food, and cultures. His life experiences helped shape his worldview, which he feels is distinct and worthy of contemplation. A commercial real estate executive by day, he spends his free time reading, writing, road cycling, mountain biking, and podcasting. Husband to one, father to two, father-in-law to two, grandfather to two, and Vessel of The One, Jeff is enjoying life and family more and more as he grows older.
Attempting to improve his writing skills, Jeff started blogging several years ago. His writings tend to focus on his personal experiences and life lessons with the hope that the reader learns and considers another perspective. He recently started podcasting with the intent to record the history of his youth both for his children, grandchildren and future generations and to broaden the listener’s perspective and enjoyment. Jeff hopes lives are enriched through his blogs and podcasts.
So where did the pen name “Congo Kid” come from, you ask? Jeff immersed himself into the Congolese culture as a child growing up, learning the local language, culture and establishing lifelong friendships. His love for the country and people earned him the name “Congo Kid”. He had a CB Radio in college and decided his handle should be Congo Kid ; thus the name stuck—somehow befitting his background and his ongoing quest to approach life as a kid, with a Congo bent, and not as an old person. So there you have it.
